How to Use Steinbot

This project is primarily interested in how words relate to one another in Gertrude Stein's works. To this end, users can either drill down on a specific word or generate a Steinian poem with a single word as its root inspiration.

For a more in-depth analysis, please read the about page.

Approach #1: Explore individual words

To get started, either enter a word into the search bar or read a poem found under the "Corpus" menu option and click any part of the text.

You'll find that some words have many relationships, such as "green", whereas others, like "beef", are more isolated.

Approach #2: Generate a Steinian poem

The most interactive way to use this app!

To use this feature, click the button at the bottom of any individual word's page (as detailed in Approach #1). Alternatively, click the "Generate Poem" button in the menu bar to get started with a random word.

Once you've generated a poem, adjust the toggles at the top of the page to change how the poem is generated, or click any word in the poem to swap it out for another.

(If you wind up generating a really cool poem, please share it with us at lewismillholland@gmail.com!)
